Business Benefits
Traditionally fibre optic cable has only been used as the backbone of large networks or for connecting into large corporate offices. However, in today’s world, where applications such as video-conferencing and multimedia are demanding ever increasing bandwidth, more and more businesses are benefiting from using a fibre optic connection.
The main advantage of fibre is that the cables have a much higher bandwidth, in other words they carry much more data. Also, optical fibre cables are not affected by signal noise and so provide a higher quality of transmission. As fibre does not radiate a magnetic field, it makes the data transmitted over the cable very secure as there is no signal to be “tapped”.
Normally fibre optic cable is extremely costly, and this would usually prevent SMEs (small and medium- sized enterprises) from taking advantage of the benefits it brings. The provision of fibre on the 6 Atlas business parks means that the telecoms service providers effectively have direct access to the SME customer. There are very few limitations in terms of the bandwidth or capacity that can be provided across fibre – it is simply down to the equipment connected at either end. This means that service providers will be able to offer business park users access to their network which is highly scalable and very flexible. This connection should be able to support a whole range of services, and some examples of business benefits are listed in the pdf below.
If you are a business based on one of the 6 Atlas business parks and are interested in taking advantage of fibre-optic based services, please contact your telecommunications service provider to discuss the options further.
